Welcome to our website                                  If you want to go straight to an extensive selection of sign photos please scroll down and click on the link 'house signs and others' further down this page.                                Woodcott is a very small business close to Bath, UK but we do top-quality bespoke work and custom design each sign so we need a lot of photos to show the  possibilities. As result this website is quite large!  Wooden house signs, other oak signs and wooden fire surrounds in oak and pine have been our speciality since we started woodworking in 1979. We hope that in our case 'small is beautiful'. The wooden house signs and other personalised signs we make are all out of durable rot-proof oak - the best timber there is for house signs. All our wooden signs have lettering hand-carved in the traditional manner, often with colour added to improve clarity. We make many wooden house signs and other wooden signs without a motif but, as we carve by hand, we can add absolutely any detail you may want. Most are in the range £25 - £90. We also make village signs, farm signs and stable signs. Whatever your signage requirements please phone us to discuss the design and we can give you an immediate quotation. Being personalised signs, custom designed and carved by hand anything is possible!

WOODCOTT FIRE SURROUNDS
Established 1979
For information or advice
phone direct to Andy 01373 812270

wooden fire surrounds are made from top quality oak or pine and you will notice from the photographs that the wood for each fire surround had been carefully selected to avoid knots, etc. We custom design each style and they can be made any size to-order and the details changed to suit the customer.  If you have a design in mind or wish to copy an existing wooden fire surround - no problem, just phone us to discuss your requirements. The price range is £250 - £1000+ depending on complexity.

The motifs on our wooden fire surrounds and wooden house signs and other oak signs can be whatever you like because we custom design our signs:- traditional, unusual or whimsical. We draw them out and carve them by hand. One of us (Andy) is a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art and the other (Rob) studied architecture and has many years' woodcarving experience so we can design and carve almost anything.

Did you know?..............

The oak is the largest and longest lived of our native species generally living to several hundred years of age unless felled (usually for timber) which is not often done before maturity at about 150 years. Before the introduction of continental species the oak was, in most areas of Britain, the dominant species of our native woodland and often still – caused not by any aggressive tendencies but as a function of it’s longevity. The oak affords a habitat for as many as 500 species of insects in it’s foliage and bark but has such powers of recouperation that the tree and – for us the important bit – the timber does not suffer.
